It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edmond Ferguson on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at home, surrounded by is loving family, following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Anna (Nan) Ferguson.
Eddie will be sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, Shirley (MacLeod); his son, Gilbert (Louise), their children Miria and Tess; his daughter, Noreen and her daughter, Angela; his youngest daughter, Jacqueline (Peter) Ferguson-Doucette. He is also survived by his sister, Myrna (Wally) Crowdis and brother, Wilfred (Sandra) Ferguson; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Eddie inherited a love of music and a passion for cars and trucks at an early age; he worked at his father’s side learning the mechanic trade eventually becoming a licensed mechanic. He worked for many years at Island Motors, Plaza Auto Sales and retired in 1995 from Breton Toyota.
For several years, Eddie could be seen daily walking his faithful companion, “Deogee.”
By nature Eddie was a quiet, gentle, private man who loved his family deeply and was happiest when his loved ones were near. His granddaughters brought new meaning to his life — he would often sing songs, read stories and have “tea parties” instilling lasting memories.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m., Friday, March 5, 2010, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Donkin, with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow at the Donkin legion.
In keeping with Eddie’s kind nature, the family request a kind deed be done in his memory, in lieu of flowers.
