SMITH, Dorothy, 98, of Windsor, formerly of Tonge Hill, Hants Co., passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2010, in the Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, where she has been a resident for the past 12 years. Born on April 1, 1911, in Belmont, Hants Co., she was the daughter of the late James Henry and Bessie (Benedict) Benedict. Dorothy was a member of the Windsor United Church. In her younger years, she was a housekeeper for Dr. Smith. Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Pauline (Walter) Foley, Ottawa, Ontario; Doreen (Keith) Tomlinson, Garlands Crossing; her son, Reginald (Diane) Smith, Kingston, Ontario; grandchildren, Peter Foley, Bradley Foley, Tanya Lake, and Sarah Chaudhari; great grandchildren, Liam Foley, Kristie Lake and Matthew Lake; sisters, Gladys MacBurnie and Muriel Moore, both at Dykeland Lodge, Windsor; brothers, Lewis Benedict, and Gordon Benedict, both at Dykeland Lodge, Windsor; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Rupert Smith (1987); granddaughter, Pamela Foley; her sisters, Marion Lowe, Lottie Davis, and Winnie Benedict. Visitation was 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor, followed by cremation. A graveside service will be held at a later date, in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. Family flowers only and donations in memory of Dorothy, were requested to be made to The Friends of Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. The family wishes to send special Thanks, to Dorothy’s neighbours on Tonge Hill, Doris Lake, Lawrence and Janet Boyd, the Zwicker family; also to the staff of Dykeland Lodge, for the wonderful care Dorothy received over the past 12 years.
