(1935-2010)– It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Dr. Colin Mackenzie Brown, peacefully at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home on February 25, 2010. Colin grew up in Scotland, where he studied medicine and married nurse Jan Thomson, the love of his life. Together with their five children, Colin and Jan immigrated to Newfoundland in 1974. For over thirty years, Colin was a devoted physician to his patients in St. John’s, a member of the St. Andrew’s Church choir, and, throughout his life, a loving husband and father. Leaving to mourn are Colin’s cherished wife Jan Brown; daughter Karen Howse (David); sons: David (the late Roberta), Kevin (Maureen) and Stephen (Gina); grandchildren: Alex, Ian, Fiona, Joshua, Will, Kate, Michael and Sean; sister Margaret Shackleton (Bill); brother Jim (Eileen); sisters-in-law: Cathy Brown and Margaret Thomson (Jim); dear Aunt Babs MacKay; and his treasured friends, especially the wonderful folk at St. Pat’s who brought joy to his days. Visitation will be held at St. Patrick's Mercy Home Chapel on Wednesday, March 3rd from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from St. Patrick’s Mercy Home Chapel on Thursday, March 4th at 2:00 p.m. Cremation will follow funeral service. A private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Colin’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
