The death of George Hubert Flewelling, loving husband of Evlyn (McLeod) Flewelling occurred on Saturday February 13, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in 1926 in Saint John he was the son of the late Charles and Ethel (Scaplen) Flewelling. Besides his loving wife Evlyn of 61 years, he is survived by his daughters Dianne Bulmer (George) of Waterdown, ON, Margo Flewelling of Fredericton, and Rachel Vaughan (George) of Bowmanville, ON; and son Scott Flewelling (Susan) of Hammonds Plains, NS; nine grandchildren Angela (Kevin) Kujala, Karen Bulmer, Geoffrey (Julie Matthews) Vaughan, Janice Vaughan, Peter Flewelling, John Flewelling, Matthew Flewelling, Patrick Flewelling and Joseph Flewelling; great granddaughters Grace and Phoebe Kujala; sister Elizabeth “Betty” Mabey of Campobello Island; several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Sisters and brothers-in-law Helen (Win) Fowler, Jean (Eric) Garland, Dorothy (Don) Archer, and Francis Mabey predeceased him. George was former Warden and Vestryman of All Saints Church. He also belonged to the Lancaster Rifle and Pistol Association, the Woodstock Curling Club, the Simonds Seniors Club, and the Maritime Commercial Traveller’s Association.
George was a Commercial Traveller for several years living in Smith’s Cove, NS; Woodstock, and Saint John and ended his working years at Canada Post, retiring in 1990. Over the years he enjoyed curling (his team once curled a perfect “eight ender”), hunting, fishing, bowling, woodworking, playing cards and travelling (especially to Ontario, Florida, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, PEI, and the Panama Canal). He was blessed with a multitude of friends who appreciated his sense of humour. Dad was a proud father, grandfather, and great grandfather and all will miss him.
Visitations will be held from Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, (646-2424) on Tuesday March 16, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of life will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday March 17, 2010 at 11 a.m. A private family interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations made to the All Saints Anglican Church Building Fund Park Avenue, Canadian Down Syndrome Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
