84, North Sydney It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Jessie Mae Courtney, age 84, a resident of the Northside Community Guest Home, and formerly of Forman Street, on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at the guest home. Born in Rose Blanche, Jessie was the daughter of the late James and Rose (MacDonald) Brown. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a member of the Northside Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club. Jessie was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, and a member of the ACW. Jessie is survived by her son, Brent (Vera) Courtney, North Sydney; and a daughter, Frances Chisholm, Dartmouth; seven grandchildren, Trena, Lee Scott, Angela, Ricky, Lisa, Erica and Lindsay and nine great-grandchildren, Troy, Max, Sam, Maggie, Courtney, Patrick, Ryan, Mary and Cory and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Eric Courtney, a daughter, Alma Kent, two sisters, Hanna and Ellen and a brother, John. Visitation for Jessie will be held from 7-9 p.m., Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating.
