NEW GLASGOW/TRURO – Carl Fraser Hingley, 90, passed away on March 17, 2010 at Williams Country Homes.
Born in Eureka, on May 10, 1919, Carl was the youngest child of the late Alexander Fraser and Catherine (Dunbar) Hingley.
He was predeceased by his life’s love, Eileen (MacIntosh) Hingley.
He is survived by daughters, Janice (Doug) Barnaby, Dartmouth; Linda (Jim) Wilson, Truro; granddaughters: Krista Barnaby, Halifax; Laura Barnaby, Truro; Meaghan (Mark) Denholm, Truro; Julie Wilson, New Glasgow. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Donald MacIntosh, New Glasgow; sister-in-law, Betty Holroyd, Montreal.
He was the last surviving member of his family being predeceased by brothers, Johnson and David; sisters: Margaret (in childhood), Alberta Johnston, Wilna Fraser and Margaret Sibilde.
Carl was raised in Trenton but spent most of his married life in New Glasgow. Due to failing health he moved to Truro in 2006 but always considered Pictou County home. His working career of 47 years was spent entirely at Hawker Siddeley /Trenton Works. He retired in 1982 as Personnel and Industrial Relations Manager.
Carl was an Elder at First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, as well as serving on the VON and UIC Board of Referees for countless years.
He will be remembered as a source of strength, care, humour and generosity to his family, friends and colleagues.
On Carl’s behalf, the family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Don Rowe, Cathy Rose, Mary Carroll and most recently to Carmen Payson and staff at Williams Country Homes. The care and attention they gave to Carl in his last years became the very essence of his days. They truly earned his respect and love.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.H Porter Funeral Homes, New Glasgow, where visitation will be Saturday, March 20, 2010 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. A service of celebration will be held Sunday, March 21, 2010 at 2 p.m. from First Presbyterian Church, MacLean Street, New Glasgow with the Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. A reception will follow immediately after the service. Burial in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens at a later date where he will be laid to rest next to his wife, Eileen, whom he lost 25 years ago.
