80, Middle River With broken hearts and fond memories we are saddened to announce the passing of Margaret Louise 'Peggy' MacRae. Peggy died peacefully at her home surrounded by family and friends on Jan. 14, 2009. Born in Big Baddeck, she was the daughter of D.J. and Greta (Wilson) MacKay. Peggy worked for many years as an elementary school teacher, was Past Worthy Matron of the Victoria Chapter No. 19 Order of Eastern Star, a member of Middle River United Church, the community church choir, as well as the local seniors club. Peggy is survived by son, Franklin (Susan) MacDonald, Baddeck, their children Katie, Franklin and Willie; daughter, Helen (Dan) MacRae, Big Baddeck, their children Greta, Jennifer and Chelsea; daughter, Doreen (Gordon Jr.) Macaulay, Baddeck, their children Shauna and Kimberley; daughter, Wendy (Alex) Wong, Baddeck, their children Samantha, Mitchell and Jessica; first grandchild, Michelle (Darren) Thompson, Antigonish; four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Rachel, Stephen, Isabelle; as well as her faithful companion, Rusty. She is also survived by siblings, Billy MacKay, Mabel MacDonnell, Reid MacKay and their families. Also left to mourn is Wilbur MacRae, along with many other in-laws, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Peggy was predeceased by her first husband, Frank D. MacDonald, second husband, Gordon D. MacRae and sister, Doris J. MacLeod. Peggy's greatest joy was being surrounded by her family and she will remain legendary for her good cup of tea and biscuits. A special thank you to all who were involved in her care; words cannot express our gratitude. Visitation will take place at MacAskill's Funeral Home, Baddeck, Jan. 17 from 2-9 p.m.; Eastern Star Service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 18 in Farquharson Memorial Presbyterian Church, Middle River, with Rev. Karen Lynch officiating. Burial in Middle River Cemetery. Reception to follow at the Middle River Community Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
