1925-2009 Glace Bay It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Anthony Wujek, 83, of Glace Bay. John passed peacefully Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay, John was the son of the late Anthony and Theodora Wujek. John was a quiet man who never needed many words to express himself. He enjoyed reading, gardening and travelling. In his later years, he enjoyed the company of his little buddy 'Oreo'. He was employed with Devco working at No. 26 Colliery and retiring from Phalen Colliery after 42 years of service. John will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Winnifred (MacDonald); daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Patrick Reid; two granddaughters he adored, Amanda, Fort McMurray and Elyse, at home; brother, Frank (Carmie), Toronto; and brother-in-law, Donald (Winnifred), Connecticut. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Mary. Visitation for John Wujek will take place Tuesday 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating. Interment will be held at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney at a later date. A reception will follow in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to St. Mary's Anglican Church, Glace Bay.
