Shirley Elizabeth Pothier, age 75, of Walker Street, New Glasgow, passed away on Friday, March 13th, 2009, surrounded by her loving family in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Beatrice (Price) Crowtz.
Shirley was a lifelong resident of New Glasgow.
She operated the CNIB canteen at the Aberdeen Hospital for 17 years, the same canteen her late husband, Whitey, had operated for 17 years prior to his death.
She was a member of St. George’s Anglican Church. Shirley enjoyed music whether it be playing the piano or listening to the music of the big band era. An avid animal lover, Shirley especially enjoyed cats and dogs.
Her greatest joy was always her family.
Surviving are sons: Barry, Jimmy, David (Melanie), all of New Glasgow; Kenny (Belinda), Durham; daughters, Judy Pothier, Halifax, Barb Gerrior, New Glasgow; grandchildren: Bronwen, Harrison, Leah, Charlee, Kelsea, Brandon, Joey and Ricky; chosen grandchildren: Darlene, Bertha, Derek and Kenny; great-grandson, Brydan. Also surviving is her aunt Mary Stallard, Valley View Villa.
She was predeceased by her husband, Loran (Whitey) Pothier; and a chosen daughter, Mary.
The family will receive visitors from 7-9 p.m. on Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from St. George’s Anglican Church with Rev. Elliott Siteman officiating. Burial will be in the Brookside Cemetery at a later date.
Donations in memory of Shirley may be made to the CNIB, the Diabetic Association or to a charity of one’s choice.
