GUTFRIEND
Pius Gutfriend of Medicine Hat passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2009 at the age of 93 years, beloved husband of the late Theresa Gutfriend. He leaves to cherish his memory two children, Ivan (Marie Anne) Gutfriend of Regina and Grace (Ken) Kitts of Kelowna; five grandchildren, Dorian and Brandi Gutfriend; Kristin, Meghan (Mitch) Bertolotti and Evan Kitts; three brothers, Leonard Gutfriend, Greg (Vi) Gutfriend and Emanuel Gutfriend; one sister, Helen Philpott as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Theresa on July 21, 2003 and his parents, Anton and Christina Gutfriend. Pius was born on April 10, 1915 at Mendham, Saskatchewan. He grew up in that area and attended Krupp country school. On October 30, 1944 Pius married Theresa Thome at St. John’s Church south of Prelate. Together they farmed for south of Mendham until 1953. At that time they moved to Moose Jaw, farming east of the city, retiring in 1986. Pius was also a finishing carpenter and was employed with Zaboyski Construction. He was a member of St. Joseph’s, an honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Lawless Council # 1534 in Moose Jaw. He loved farming, gardening and having coffee row with his friends. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Thursday evening from 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 9:30 - 10:25 a.m. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Friday, March 20, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Keith Sorge celebrant.
