It is with great sadness that we mourn the death of Mary, who passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
She was a native of New Victoria, the daughter of the late Frank and Eliza (Sheppard) Hogan.
Mary leaves behind her children, Debbie, Stephen and Billy. Also surviving are brother, Lloyd ‘Muzzy’ Hogan (Theresa); sisters, Geraldine Black and Marjorie Hillier (Bobby Aucoin). She will also be missed by brother-in-law, John Pegg; sister-in-law, Pauline Hogan and Donna Young and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Matty Charles Matthews; as well as sisters, Sue, Fran, Lorraine and brothers, Clarence, Michael and Francis, in infancy.
As per Mary’s request, cremation has taken place under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500. A farewell funeral service to celebrate ‘Booie’s’ life will be held for all friends and family in the funeral home chapel on Friday, March 20, 2009 at 2 p.m. with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Burial will take place at a future date at Black River Cemetery in Richmond County, alongside her beloved Matty.

Mary’s family would like to acknowledge the men and women of the C. B. County Homemakers for their continued care and friendship to her throughout the years. She considered them her extended family and called them her “special angelsâ€. Also thanks to all the doctors who have cared for Mary and the nurses and staff of the I.C.U. and Palliative Care Unit of the C. B. Regional Hospital.
Finally, thanks to the residents of Reeves St. apartments for their friendship, most of all though, a huge thank you to John Angell and Leo MacKinnon for always being there for their good friend Mary. She really valued your friendship. Thanks to everyone for all the prayers and support.
