Samuel ‘Shike’ Goldman, born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on May 11, 1915. Veteran of the Second World War, father of nine, died quietly in his sleep on Friday, March 20, 2009 in Vancouver, B.C.
He was a devoted son of the late Charles and Chillie (Epstein) Goldman, Glace Bay.
He was predeceased by his late siblings, Alex, Nathan and infant brother, Willie; sister, Esther, New York.
He is survived by sisters, Molly, Montreal and Dorothy, New York; children, Charlie, Esther, Nancy, Cathie, David, Philip (with whom he’d lived for the past 15 years), Connie, John and Max.
On his return from overseas, he operated a successful salvage business, expanding to his own long haul trucking company. He moved to Halifax, where he operated the last kosher butcher shop in Nova Scotia. He retired to Vancouver, B.C. to be in the company of his loving children.
His was a colourful life. Whether high or low, it was always big. He inspired great passion in all his children and will be missed very much, while remaining an important topic of both familial conversations and memories.
