It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear wife, mother and sister, Rose Hollingsworth, formerly of Maria Street, North Sydney. Rose passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at Taigh Solas in the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in North Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Doug and Beatrice (Witherall) Townsend.
Rose worked for a number of years with H.B. Nickerson & Sons in North Sydney. She was an avid bingo player, and a member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church, North Sydney.
Rose is survived by her husband, Delbert; her son, Earl (Kelly), North Sydney; two daughters, Della (Gordon) Crews and Melody (Colin) Bastien, both of Toronto; five grandchildren, Jordan, Charleen, Nicole, Amanda, Kacey; one great-grandchild, Haley; a sister, Ruth (Major) Slade, North Sydney; three brothers, Ben (Emma) Townsend, Miramichi, N.B., Rick (Chris) Townsend, Ottawa, Bill Townsend, Sydney; also by a number of nieces and nephews.
Rose was predeceased by her son, Robert.
There will be no visitation by request. A celebration of Rose’s life will be held 1 p.m. Monday, March 30 from St. Giles Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Burial at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Taigh Solas of the Northside General Hospital, or St. Giles Presbyterian Church.
