It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather, and brother, Willard Grant, on Friday, March 27, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
A life-long resident of Boularderie, Willard was the son of the late Alexander and Isabel (MacDonald) Grant.
Willard was an avid woodsman, and enjoyed operating a saw mill for a number of years. He worked as a heavy equipment operator with the Department of Transportation, until his retirement in 1997. Willard was a quiet and gentle man, who enjoyed the simple things in life; his family and friends, working with his hands and gardening. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Boularderie.
He is survived by his three sons, Glen (Marianna) and Vincent (Brenda), both of Bridgewater, and David of Boularderie; his eight brothers and sisters, Duncan (Thelma), Roy, Graham (Lillian), Laura (Tom) Furtado, Murray (Gloria), all of Boularderie, Shirley (Jack) Adams, Jean Grant, both of Sydney, Earl (Diane) of Englishtown; three grandchildren, Bailey, Allison and Caitlin, and by many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Shirley (Kendall) Grant, and an infant son.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of Victoria County Home Care, VON, and Palliative Care for the care shown to Willard during his illness.
There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m. from Knox Presbyterian Church, Boularderie, with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Burial to take place at a later date in MacDonald cemetery, Boularderie. A reception will be held in the church hall following the memorial service.
Memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association or Hospice Palliative Care of Cape Breton.
