Passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
George was employed with Parks Canada for 36 years. Adventuring out with his sons on his snowmobile to a special place he called the “Hub Cap†was a favourite pastime. He also loved tinkering with his tractor or repairing small engines for a hobby. He thoroughly enjoyed fiddle music and it was often heard around him.
George is survived by his wife of 57 years, Florence; five sons, Barry (Jean), Ingonish, Francis (Nancy), Ontario, Richard (Moira), Ingonish, Robert (Marilyn), Halifax, Gordon (Margaret), Ingonish; two daughters, Doris (Kendall), Ontario, Cynthia, Ontario; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson. He is also survived by three sisters, Kaye Bushor, North Sydney, Emma (John) MacKrous, British Columbia, Margaret MacLean, Ingonish.
Predeceased by two sons, Wayne and infant son, Barry; father, Archibald and mother, Marcella (MacLellan) MacKinnon; brother, Daniel, Alex, Francis, William, Paul and John. George ‘granddad’ will be missed by all.
Memorial service will be held Thursday at St. Peter’s Church, Ingonish at 2 p.m. with Fr. Dan MacDonald officiating, reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Buchanan Memorial Hospital in Neil’s Harbour.
