PETIT – Roland Albert
April 30, 1945 – March 23, 2009
It is with deep sadness that Valerie announces the passing of her soul mate Roland Albert Petit. Roland went to be with his Higher Power on March 23, 2009 after a very brief but hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Roland leaves behind to cherish his memory; his wife Valerie (nee Racicot); his two sons David of St. Louis and Stuart (Jennifer) of Prince Albert; his grandchildren who were the sparkle in his eyes, Nika-Rae, Kaydin and Tristin all of St. Louis; one brother Tony (Verna) of St. Louis; one sister Rita Vandale of Saskatoon; his sisters and brothers-in-law Debbie (Frankie) Duguay of Bon Accord, AB, Sharon (John) Dyck of Saskatoon, SK, Penny MacDonald of Blaine Lake, SK, Cathy (Garry) Girling of Blaine Lake, SK, Joseph Racicot of Regina, SK and Andre (Bonnie) Racicot of Sherwood Park, AB; many, many nieces, nephews and cousins and very special friends Constant Gaudet of St. Louis, SK, Gayle Sinclair and Rick Galloway, both of Prince Albert, SK. He was predeceased by his parents Napoleon and Josephine Petit; one brother Donat Petit and a great niece Courtney Petit in infancy. At the time of Roland’s passing he was employed with the Department of Corrections and Public Safety (P.A.C.T.R.). He truly loved his job and looked forward to going to work every day. Seeing a positive change in his residents was the highlight of his day. He made such a difference to so many people. Roland truly loved hockey, golf and baseball and he managed, coached and played these sports throughout his life. He was truly a feared defenseman with his heavy stick. He was a huge supporter of his community and at the time of his passing he was Mayor of St. Louis. He was a past member of the Lion’s Club and loved to be very involved with the rink and hockey. AA was an integral part of his life and he lived by the Big Book. He was just short of 25 years of sobriety and he was so proud of his accomplishment. He leaves behind many friends through this organization. He was a sincere, honest and compassionate person. He treated everyone with respect and dignity. Right up to the end, Roland told everyone things would be okay, he was ready to move on, and for everybody to take care of themselves. He was still worrying about everyone else rather than himself. All of the visits in the last few weeks meant the world to him, especially when his Godchild Robin visited him. Roland had a huge family who truly showed him just how loved he really was. A special thank you to Tony and Rita’s children for being there for Uncle Roland. He truly loved you all. Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2009 with Jacqueline LeBlanc officiating. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2009 with celebrant Reverend Father Tru Le. Both services will be held at St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, St. Louis, SK. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Relay for Life. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, Drew Gray, Funeral Director.
