Frank Stokes
Passed peacefully away in the presence of his large and loving family at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on September 6th, 2008 at the age of 86. Frank, a well- respected St. John's businessman, was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 56, a past Grandmaster, Whiteway Lodge, a past Commodore of the Royal Newfoundland Yacht Club, a past president of both the St. John's Kiwanis Club and the Kiwanis Music Festival and a lifelong member of Wesley United Church. Frank lived a long and happy life, whether he was in the air (piloting a variety of small planes), on the water (for a day on the bay with his jigger), or on land being a loving Husband, Father, Brother, and Grandfather, as well as a wonderful friend. Predeceased by his son Robert and sister Phyllis. Left with loving memories are his devoted wife of 65 years Vera (nee Snow); sons Douglas (Jacqui) and children Stephen and Raylene and their mother Rosalind as well as Frank's five great-grandchildren; Paul (Ingrid) and children Andrea, Erika and Jessica; Greg (Doreen) and children Allison, Stephanie, Lesley Anne and William; Glenn (Rosalie) and children Carolyn and Jeff; Allan (Regina); daughter Lauren; brothers Ralph, Gordon (Audrey) and David and their families; sisters Olive, Gladys, Marjorie and their families; brother-in-law Douglas Snow (Grace); niece Kathy Snow (Neal Ludlow) and family; nephew Hal; and a large circle of extended family and friends. Special thanks to the kind nursing staff on the 5th floor of St. Clare's Mercy Hospital. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Monday, September 8th, 2008 from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service to take place on Wednesday, September 10th, 2008 at 2 p.m. from Wesley United Church.
