While surrounded by his family, David Charles Allen, age 94, of the Upper Cape Road, N.B., went to be with the Lord on Jan. 22, 2009. Born at home on the Upper Cape Road on November 19, 1914, he was a son of the late Coleman and Minnie (Black) Allen. David is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Rhona (Scotney) Allen. Cherished father of Roberta Allen, Upper Cape Road, Naureen MacDonald, Amherst, David (Anne), Amherst, Elizabeth Rogers (Jim), Berry Mills, Mary Van Schuppen (Yochem), Sackville, Andrew (Florence), Antigonish, Eileen Millard (George), Debert, Kenneth (Mary), Pennfield; daughter-in-law, Linda Allen, Amherst and Ellen Molloy, Cody’s, N.B. Beloved by his 36 grandchildren and spouses and 30 great grandchildren. David is predeceased by his daughter in infancy, Darlene; son, Eric; sons-in-law, Lloyd Allen and Donald MacDonald; three grandchildren; grandson-in-law, Chad Penny; brothers, Lester, Bliss, Kenneth; sisters, Della Robinson, Margaret Anderson, Bessie Fillmore and Clara Stainthorpe. A lifelong farmer, at age 92, he was “Farmer Of The Year.” Throughout his life, he was well known as a carpenter, having been involved in the construction of the Port Elgin Elementary School, Crossroads Gospel Temple and other construction projects in the Maritimes. A founding father of Timber River Pentecostal Church, he was largely responsible for its success in the community and a major contributor to the construction of the facility. A great mentor, church and family man, he will be sadly missed by all. David’s remains have been entrusted into the care of the Jones Funeral Home, Port Elgin (506-538-2241) from where visitation was held on Saturday, January 24, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service was held at the Jones Funeral Home, Port Elgin on Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 2 pm. Burial in the Fernwood Cemetery, Port Elgin in the spring. Family flowers only.
