Gertrude "Trudy" Forest

Sackville, N.B. - The death of Gertrude “Trudy” Forest, 96, occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, March 18, 2009. Trudy was the daughter of the late Herbert and Ida (Chapman) Hicks and the last remaining member of her immediate family. Trudy graduated from the Sackville High School and then from Mount Allison University, known at the time as the Ladies College. She graduated from the Department of Music, majoring in the violin. She went on to continue her education at the Mount Allison Commercial College. From 1954 on, she worked in many different areas including Miami, Florida, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Moncton, New Brunswick, as well as Toronto and Oakville, Ontario for CNR. She finally retired from the University of Miami in 1971 and returned to Canada where she married Leonard Forest of Moncton in 1973. Trudy’s first love was music and she was a member of various symphony orchestras including the Toronto Harmony Symphony Orchestra and The Miami Orchestra and could be heard many times in concert during her lifetime in Sackville, Halifax, Toronto, Miami, and surrounding areas. Her talented sister Ethel would often accompany her. She was a sport enthusiast and was very skilled at tennis, golf, curling, skating and swimming, winning trophies in each category. Trudy loved animals whether they be four legged or feathered. Most of Trudy’s adult life was spent traveling between the US and Canada, wintering in Lehigh Acres, Florida and summers at her cottage in Pointe du Chene, N.B., where she enjoyed her many friends who were especially kind and helpful in her senior years. However, she never forgot her snowbird friends. Trudy will be sadly missed by her dear friends Diane Duplessis of Pointe du Chene, John and Laurette Duplessis of Moncton, Frances Read Smith and Betty Wride of Sackville, and the cottagers and snowbirds that were all special to her Besides her parents and her husband Leonard in 1986, she was predeceased by a sister Ethel in 1998. Arrangements are under the care and supervision of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville (364-1300). Visitation for Trudy was held from the funeral home on Monday, March 23, 2009 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 11 a.m. Burial to be held at a later date. www.jonesfuneralhome.ca
