Brookdale, N.S. – With great sadness we have to announce the passing of Hilda Evangeline Greene (Dixon), peacefully and with family at her side, on Sunday, August 3, 2008 at the Cumberland Health Care Centre in Amherst, N.S. Born December 2, 1923 in Sackville, N.B. to James Robson Dixon and Margaret Fletcher Mattatall. She worked at Canada Car & Foundry during the war helping build airplanes for the War Effort. She later moved to Oxford, N.S., where she managed the Eaton’s order office for many years making several lifelong friends during her time there. She worked at the Sears order office after moving back to Amherst before starting work as a Librarian at the Cumberland Regional Library where she worked until she retired. She enjoyed gardening while she was able, caring for her house plants, playing cards (and winning!), watching and cheering for the Toronto Blue Jays, and sitting underneath the Apple or the Maple tree and telling stories, of which there were many. Above all, she loved her family and loved hearing all the details of our lives, good or bad. She was truly loved and will be sorely missed by us all. She is survived by her daughter Sandra Richards, Abbottsford, BC, son Craig (Susan) Greene, Amherst; grandsons, Michael (Lisa) Montrose, Utah, Jarrett Greene, Amherst; Great Grandkids, Scott, John, Tessa, David and Rachel Montrose, Utah; sister-in-law Jean Dixon, Sackville, as well as many treasured nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, the late G. Kenneth Greene; brothers, Reg (Doris), Leslie (Bonnie), Charlie, Roy (at Birth); sisters, True (Reg) Keith, Marjorie (Bill) Reid, June (Louie) O’Neal, granddaughter Robin Montrose (at Birth), son-in-law Lorne Richards. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, N.S. (902-667-8777). A memorial service will be held at the Furlong-Jones Chapel, 68 Church St., on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at 2 p.m., Rev. Edward Patriquin officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Oxford. Those wishing to make a donation may do so to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Foundation, First Baptist Church, or the charity of your choice. www.furlongjones.ca
