Gordon Simpson

The death of Gordon Simpson, age 83, of Halifax and formerly of Amherst, NS, occurred at the Camphill Veteran's Hospital on Saturday, December 20, 2008. Born in Pictou Landing, he was a son of the late John Henry and Martha (Woodin) Simpson. A veteran of World War II, he served in Canada with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders. He was a member of the Trinity-St. Stephen's Men's Group and a volunteer with the Red Cross. A machinist, he worked in the Trenton Steel Works, General Motors, Oshawa and retired from Enheat, Amherst in 1990. Gordon will be sadly missed by his daughters, Nancy Simpson and Susan (Mark Everett) Simpson, both of Dartmouth, NS; and a granddaughter, Lauren Everett. He was predeceased by his wife, Doris Jean (Mitchell) and by all of his brothers and sisters, Cecil, Clarence, Ida, Elva, Ralph, Grace, Jack and Roy. Gordon's remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Church St., Amherst, NS (667-8777) from where the memorial service was held Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 11 am with reception to follow. Family and friends were invited to a time of visitation on Monday from 2 to 4 pm at the Furlong Jones Chapel.
