The death of Helen Porter, age 62, widow of Walter Porter, occurred suddenly at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Thursday, August 7, 2008. Born in Lieshout, The Netherlands, she was a daughter of Adrian Vogels and the late Martina (Roijackers) Vogels. Immigrating to Canada with her parents in 1948, she lived a short time in Ontario and then to Fort Lawrence where she lived on a dairy farm. Married to Walter Porter in 1964, she lived her married life in Amherst. She loved to beachcomb and vacation with her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, reading, puzzles and family times. Helen will be sadly missed by her two sons, Bryan (Cindy Gray) and granddaughter, Bambreigh Porter, and Gary (Bea MacGregor) and granddaughters, Danielle and Christina; her father, Adrian Vogels; brothers, Martin (Linda), John (Joan) and Henry; sisters, Mary (Norm Inglis), Dorothy (Neil Mitchell) and Irene (Edward MacLean); sisters-in-law, Brenda Amos and companion Paul Haynes and Linda (Donald McCarron); and many loved nieces and nephews. Helen's remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst (902-667-8777). A funeral service was held at the funeral home on Monday, August 11, 2008 at 11 a.m., Rev. Donald Miller officiating. Burial in the Amherst Cemetery.
