Ina Florence Shea, age 97, of Amherst, passed away peacefully at her home at Gables Lodge on Monday, January 12, 2009. Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Gilbert and Dora (Briggs) Hicks. Ina was a member of the Salvation Army Citadel and the Amherst Home League. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she will be dearly missed by Pat (Judy) Davidson, Amherst, John Farrow, Amherst, Carl Davidson, Amherst, Karen (Tommy) Mallet, Summerside, all of whom she raised as her own children; nephews, Gilbert Hicks, Ronnie Ricker, and niece Dora Beal. She was predeceased by her husband Ronald, their infant child; sisters Avis Ricker, Laura Farrow and brother Gerald Hicks. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visitation will take place on Tuesday from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service took place at the Furlong~Jones Chapel, on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at 2 pm, Capt. James Hillier officiating. Burial will take place in the Amherst Cemetery in the spring.
