Lillian (Wheaton)?Stephens JOGGINS - Surrounded by her loving family, Lillian (Wheaton) Stephens, age 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center following a lengthy illness. Born in Rockport, N.B., she was a daughter of the late William and Eudora (Tower) Brown. Living in Joggins most of her married life, she was a much loved mother and grandmother and shared her talents of sewing, quilting, and cooking with her family and community. She was an avid bingo player and bowler, a member of the Anglican Church, Joggins until its closing, she then became a faithful member of the Joggins United Church. Lillian will be sadly missed by her daughter, Muriel (Robert) Terrio, River Hebert; three sons, Donald (Joyce), Wheaton, Pembroke, ON, Jack (Dianna) Wheaton, Joggins, Gary (Marg) Wheaton, Lower Cove; 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; a sister-in-law Mildred Brown, Lower Cove; six step children, Allison (Chella) Stephens, Dartmouth, Barbara (Carl) Perry, Moncton, Beatrice (Jr.) Stubbs, Moncton, Gertrude (Aubrey) Briggs, Moncton, Beverly Stephens, Halifax, Sharon Wright, Shubenacadie and several step grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband James A. Wheaton in 1975, and by her second husband Charles Stephens and her daughter-in-law Doris Wheaton. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was also predeceased by brothers Roy, William and Ralph, and sister Eudora Symes. Lillian's final arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, from where the funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008 at 2 p.m., Rev. Bob Mack officiating. Visitation took place Saturday at the Furlong Jones Chapel from 12 p.m. until the time of the funeral. Burial will take place in the Latta Cemetery, River Hebert, in the spring.
