Stan Gagnon

Stanley Joseph Gagnon, 83, of Amherst, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the Moncton City Hospital. Born in Amherst he was a son of the late Alphie & Laura (Bourgeois) Gagnon. Stan was Chief Tool Planner for Enheat for fourteen years, then worked as a mechanical drafting teacher for twenty years at the Cumberland Regional Vocational School, Springhill. He was a member of Holy Family Parish and was very active in the church serving as a eucharistic minister and was a member of the Holy Family Senior Choir. Stan was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and a member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. He often volunteered with the Amherst Food Bank. He received the Distinguished Member Award from the Community Credit Union. Stan served with the R.C.A.F. for three and a half years during WW II. He will be sadly missed by his wife Mary (Lowe) of 58 years; children, Philip (Elaine) of Lr. Sackville, NS, Linda (Terry) MacKinnon of Hillsborough, NB, David (Cheryl), Robert "Bob" (Irma) both of Brookdale, NS, Cathy Anne (Stephen) Poirier of Lr. Sackville, NS, Terry (Michelle) of Halifax, NS; 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Catherine Quesnel of Amherst, Theresa Gorman of Miramichi, NB, Margaret Fagan, Amherst, Betty Anne (George) Pettigrew, East Amherst; brothers Earl (Madge), Amherst and Harry, Halifax. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Leo, Donald, David, granddaughter Andrea and a great granddaughter Tanisha. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 68 Church St., Amherst, (902-667-8777) where visiting hours were held on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time of departure at 9:50 am. Funeral Mass was held at the Holy Family Parish on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at 10 a.m., Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Burial took place in the St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery. Parish prayers were offered at 8:30 pm, Tuesday evening.
