It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sarah Josephine ‘Josie’ Murphy, 71, of St. Agnes Avenue, New Waterford, on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the Halifax Infirmary, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Inverness, Josephine was the daughter of Mary Ellen (Hannigan) Doyle and the late Thomas Doyle.
Besides her loving mother, she is survived by her special friend and companion for several years, Nobile Sarto, Glace Bay. Also left to mourn are her loving children, two daughters, Darlene (Donnie) Murphy, New Waterford, Barbara (Roland) Ingraham, Belle Cote; one son, Gerald (Lori) Bowmansville, Ont.; two special stepdaughters, Kim Lewis, New Waterford and Colleen Lewis Halifax; four sisters, Charlene (Walter) Ivney, Baddeck, Lillian (Herb) Phillips; Margaree, Helen (Les) Little; New Germany; Anne (Robin) Doyle, Ontario. Also her eight brothers, Billy, Jerry, Michael, Tommy, Francis (Lillian), Raymond (May), all of Ontario, Danny (Lorraine) and Patrick, both of Margaree; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Besides her father, Josie was predeceased by her husband, John ‘Johnson’ Lewis; sister, Margaret and her sister-in-law, Beatrice.
There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place by request. A funeral service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home Ltd., 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500.
