We regret to announce the passing of David Fraser, 70, on Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.
Born in Ross Ferry, he was the son of the late Alexander and Margaret (MacLean) Fraser. He worked for many years in Ontario, retiring from the Borg Textile Factory, Elmira. David moved back to Cape Breton five years ago, the place that was always near and dear to his heart.
David is survived by his son, Kenneth (Mary Beth), Leamington, Ont.; granddaughters, Megan and Lexie; brothers, Roy (Grace), Elmira, Ontario, Harold (Marie), George’s River; sisters, Isabel Hawley, Ross Ferry, Vida (Basil) MacNeil, North Sydney; his aunt, Rena Butts, Ajax, Ont. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, David was predeceased by a son, Kevin Roy and his companion, Mary Airdrie; and brother-in-law, Lawrence Hawley.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines. A memorial service to celebrate David’s life will be held in Knox Presbyterian Church, Ross Ferry, on Monday, April 6, 2009, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Murdock MacRae officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall.
David’s family would like to thank the staff of 4 East, Northside General Hospital and MacDougall Court, Harbourstone Enhanced Care.
Donations in David’s memory may be made to Knox Presbyterian Church, Ross Ferry, or to a charity of one’s choice.
