It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Rosetta Elizabeth (Plichie) Edmond. Rosetta passed away Friday, April 3, 2009, in her 89th year at the Glace Bay Health Care Facility.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Florence (McKinnon) Plichie.
Rose was an avid bowler and won many trophies in her ladies bowling league. She was a member of the Wednesday’s Night Ladies club for over 40 years. Rose worked in retail at Thoms Gift Shop for 14 years and also at John MacNeil’s Shoe Store for four years. Our mother loved music and dancing. She was well known for her beautiful smile. She took great pride in her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She knitted many scarves that she gave to all those she loved. She and her husband, Alex, travelled to many wonderful destinations and spent many summers with her children and friends out on the Mira.
Rose will be sadly missed by her loving children, Juanita, Lloyd (Roberta), Valerie (Sidney) and Audrey; brothers, Roy (Millie), Rudy, Stanley (Lynda) Plichie; sisters, Margaret O’Brien, Corletta Fenner, Gabriella ‘Lalla’ Van Gingle; cherished grandchildren, Brad and Mark McIntyre, Glen (Haek) Edmond, Brian (Trish) Edmond, Christy and Josh Osborne; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Kyle Edmond and Keira and Tyler Edmond.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of many years, Alex, brothers, John, Louie, Ronald Plichie, sisters, Juanita, Philemena Plichie.
Visitation for Rosetta Edmond will be held Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Church with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Rosetta’s memory may be made to the Glace Bay Food Bank.
