DONAHUE, Mr. Lawrence. Lawrence was welcomed home by his Lord, Saturday, March 28, 2009, at the age of 89 years. The resurrection mass was held Saturday, April 4, from Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Swift Current, with Father Sathiadas Antony officiating. The pianist was Julie Randall and the Christ the Redeemer Choir. Pallbearers were nephews: Al Cartwright, Stan Cartwright, Steve Jacobs, Kurt Jacobs, Terry Jacobs, and Vern Jacobs. Interment followed in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Swift Current. Lawrence Edward Donahue, only child of Edward and Katherine (nee O’Brian) Donahue, was born at Moose Jaw, SK, January 3, 1920. He was raised on a farm in the Cedar View district near Simmie, SK. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward in 1952, Katherine 1960; beloved wife, Louise (September 11, 2008); and their only child, Shanna Louise (September 1967). He is survived by brother-in-law, Pete (Agnes) Jacobs; sisters-in-law, Mary Heagy and Mary Jacobs; and many nieces and nephews. Lawrence helped his dad farm until his dad’s health failed, and then he took care of both his father and mother until their deaths. He moved to Swift Current renting his farm. He had many odd jobs there and also helped neighbours at harvest time out at Simmie. He met the love of his life, Louise Jacobs from Canopus in 1960. She was a hairdresser in Swift Current and they married at Sacred Heart in 1961. In the fall of 1962, a beautiful little girl Shanna Louise was born to them. She was born with Spina Bifita and as a result lived only 5 short years. This left a great void in their lives. Lawrence was then hired by Knutson Construction, he did odd jobs but also was “Chief Cook and Bottle Washer” for their work crew for nearly 20 years. He was never so proud when he was presented a beautiful watch for his faithful service and wore it proudly till the day he died. His health was deteriorating as was Louise’s, however, no matter how bad his health was he always took good care of his Louise. Over 3 years ago she had a major stroke so was admitted to the Palliser Care Center. Lawrence went each day faithfully from morning till dark, helping with her needs, lovingly holding her hand until her passing this past September. By then, he had moved to Riverside Estates but his health had deteriorated over this past year and an half, he was then placed in Eastend Wolfwillow Center, in early November, coming “home” to all the caring people of the Palliser Care Center on December, 23, 2008. He was a devoted and caring man who had looked after people almost all his life. His concern was never about himself but about others. He kept meticulous records of finances, who came and went from the house, and personal comments, about his thoughts about people and himself as well as his health. He was a good neighbour and friend. He was proud of his Irish Catholic roots and was devoted to his church.
