Eva (Farncombe) Getz
October 20, 1914 – March 27, 2009
Eva was born on October 20, 1914 in Birch Hills, the youngest of ten girls in the William Farncombe family, who farmed three miles south of Birch Hills. Eva attended school in Birch Hills up to grade 6. She then moved to Skipton where her sister Florence was teaching. After two years she returned to Birch Hills to help on the farm, helping her Dad by milking cows and helping with meal preparation. Eva met Merrill Getz in 1934 and they were married in December of 1935. They lived in the Farncombe home for the first four years of their marriage and moved to Red Deer Hill in 1939. They farmed there for five years and moved back to Birch Hills in 1945. Eva always took an active role in the farming operation; looking after chickens, milking cows and helping with the harvest. During this time she also made time to raise eight children, two who were lost in tragic accidents. She supported each one of them in their activities ranging from Sunday school to 4-H. Eva encouraged all of her children to further their education. All seven completed professional training. Eva has nineteen grand children and twenty three great grandchildren. Eva retired from the farming operation in 1976 when they relocated to Birch Hills. She continued to cook meals and serve them at all times of the day and night while Merrill and his sons carried on the farming. Eva really enjoyed gardening and making her surroundings an array of colors with flowers and an extensive vegetable garden. During the winter months she took up quilting. She made quilts for all her children. Eva was predeceased by her parents – William and Jessie Farncombe; Husband -Merrill; Sons- Blair & Bradley; Granddaughter- Trina Graupe; Sisters - Myrtle Farncombe, Mary Dodwell, Edith Hunter, Florence Noble, Laura Knudsen, Marie Hunter, Ada Coble, Alma Andressen. Eva is survived by her Children- Beryl (Harold) Senger, Osoyoos, BC; Grant (Barbara) Getz, Birch Hills, Sk.; Malcolm (Donna) Getz, Ashton, Ont.; Beverly (Gordon) Graupe, Nakusp, BC.; Sheldon ( Betty) Getz, Leduc, Ab.; Barry (Cileen) Getz, Birch Hills, Sk.; Her daughter in law – Jacquie Getz, Brooks, Ab. Her Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren- Carolyn (Darryl) Miranda, Ty McDaniel; Clayton & Christopher Senger; Craig (Ronda) Jordan Getz; Clark (Arin) Megan, Kylie Getz; Robin (Michelle) Matthew, Lauren, Isaac Getz; Nicole (Pat) Russel, Breeanna Wright; Blair Getz; Jolyn (Mike) Kalen, Olivia, Callista, Georgianna, Miranda McCreesh; Tyler ( Nadine) Kirk, Kieran Graupe; Michael (Carlin) Hannah Getz; Jeff & Joanne Getz; Kevin (Jamie) Cianna, Madison, Hannah Getz; Steven (Trish) Emma Getz; Greg (Heather) Payton Getz; Jason, Amada, Aaron Getz; One Sister- Beatrice Foster of Weldon. As well as numerous nieces & nephews. Funeral Service is Thursday, April 9, 2009- 1:30 PM in the Birch Hills Lutheran Church. Interment Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
