It is with sadness that we announce the passing of the beloved husband of Mary (Markadonis) Vihos, our uncle, godfather and friend, Nicholas (Nick) Vihos, 101 years old, of Glace Bay N.S. on April 1, 2010, at Seaview Manor.
Nick was born in Milos Greece in 1908, the son of Louloudis and Katherine (Zoulias) Vihos. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Stavros (Toula), Evangelos and Konstantinos and sisters Marigo Chronis, Irene Xidos, Kyriaki Kambouris and Eleni Vihos, also predeceased by his nephews Emmanuel Xidos, Themis Chronis, Louloudis Kambouris, Lakis Vihos and nieces Katina Markio and Ifigenia Rakka.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 72 years, Mary Markadonis, and nephews Louloudis Chronis, Emmanuel Kambouris, Socrates Kambouris, Louloudis Vihos, and nieces Katherine Farmakoulas, Laodiki Lutwick, Helen Xidos, Maria Vihos, Tina Vihos, Katina Vihos, and Loula Kyritsis.
Nick spent the first 30 years of his life in Greece where he became an accomplished first engineer with the Greek Merchant Navy. He came to Canada in 1938 and married Mary Markadonis. Nick and Mary began their life together in Glace Bay where he became a partner in the Markadonis Shoe Store. Nick was one of the founding and very valued members of St. Anargyree Greek Orthodox Church.
He was an avid gardener and enjoyed working on metal and woodworking projects. He entertained many with his beautiful singing. He always had a special place in his heart for his Chihuahuas. Nick loved his homeland, Greece, where he and Mary spent months in Athens and in Klima, Milos.

Visitation will take place on Monday, April 5, 2010 at 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at J.M Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, NS.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 2 p.m. at St. Anargyree Greek Orthodox Church, 17 Marconi St., Glace Bay. Rev. Theodore Efthimiadis will be officiating. Internment will take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anargyree Greek Orthodox Church, 17 Marconi St., Glace Bay or to a charity of your choice.
