It is with heartfelt sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Arthur McKenzie, on Saturday, April 3, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Dominion, he was a son of the late John and Agnes McKenzie.
A long serving commissionaire, Art was a member of Branch 2 Royal Canadian Legion, Reserve Mines, a president of the Gardiner Mines Pensioners Club and a past president of St. Joseph's Men's Club. He was an avid fisherman; loved baseball and hockey and was a fan of all sports. He took pride in his computer and enjoyed playing cards.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jermina; children, Peggy (Tom) Foley, Bridgetown, Agnes Marie McKenzie (Tom) Gill, Sydney, Arthur Jr., Port Hawkesbury, Michael (Marion), Mira, Bernie (Dorothy), Sydney, Doug (Jody), Windsor and Georgina, Sydney; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Ethel Graham and Aletha MacNeil and Pat (Jack) Campbell special brother, Art Gillis; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by daughter, Anna Lee; grandson, Terrence Lee Jr; great grandson, Thomas Patrick Bennett; brothers, John and Bernard; sisters, Bernice, Loretta, Annie and Margaret.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Wednesday, 7-9 p.m. in Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. The Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Thursday, 2 p.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating.
Donations in Art's memory are suggested to the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or charity of choice.
