85, Sydney

Neil 'Cubie' Mombourquette, 85 of Taigh Na Mara, formerly of MacLeod Street, Whitney Pier, passed away Sunday, April 12 at Glace Bay General Hospital.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Peter and Annie (MacNeil) Mombourquette.
He was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish, Whitney Pier. Cubie worked for more than 40 years at Sydney Steel, retiring from the finishing mill. In his youth he was a member of Broadway Ramblers Soccer Team and the Whitney Pier Boxing Club. He was a member of the C.B. Highlanders having been wounded in August, 1944, during the Italian campaign. He was a founding member of Branch 128 Royal Canadian Legion, Whitney Pier.
He is survived by his daughter, Dorothy (John) Murphy, Sydney; sons, Bobby, Ontario, Neil 'Kippy' (Trudy), Ontario, Tom (Mary), Sydney, Wayne (Rose), Ontario. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; 2 brothers Alex, Ontario and Angie, Sydney.
He was predeceased by wife Mary Ellen (Dalton); a daughter Georgina; granddaughter Lily; sisters, Mary 'Mamie', Catherine, Janie, Helen 'Sussy', Little Mamie; brothers Louie, Roddy, John Willie and Danny.
Visitation for Cubie Mombourquette will take place on Tuesday, April 14 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Memorial donations to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund or charity of choice.
