Mary Josephine Theberge (nee MacArthur), 85, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2009 at the Harbourstone Enhanced Care Centre, Sydney, Nova Scotia.
Born in Upper Grand Mira, Cape Breton on February 10, 1924, the daughter of the late Dougal and Annie (Purcell) MacArthur. Mary married Roger Theberge in 1950, and they raised their family in Sydney and Sydney River where they were devout parishioners and very active church members of both Saint Anthony Daniel parish, Sydney and Our Lady of Fatima parish, Sydney River. Mary was very proud of her Cape Breton heritage and had a deep affection for home, family and church.
Mary received exceptional care from the nurses and staff of the Harbourstone enhanced care facility who made her last years very pleasant. The family is very grateful to the Harbourstone staff and to Dr. James MacKillop whose attention and care eased her suffering during the last months. The family derives comfort from the knowledge that Mary left this life surrounded by caring people and is at peace.
She leaves to mourn her three children, John Theberge (Carol Ann) of Fort McMurray, Alta., Darrell Theberge (Charmaine) of Nassau, Bahamas and Darlene Theberge of Sydney. Mary was blessed with nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, granddaughter, Kelleigh Theberge McCutcheon and her children, Deklin and Emileigh McCutcheon of Fort McMurray; grandson, Ryan Theberge of Fort McMurray; granddaughter, Candace Theberge of Fort McMurray; granddaughter Bridget Wadden of Sydney; granddaughter Alicia (Craig) McGillivray and their children, Brandon and Haley MacGillivray of Glace Bay; granddaughter, Jenna Theberge of Halifax; granddaughter, Samantha Theberge of Edmonton and granddaughters, Elle Theberge and April Innocenti of Nassau, Bahamas. Mary will be affectionately remembered and missed by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Roger, in 2006, after 56 years of marriage.
The family gratefully acknowledges the spiritual guidance of Reverend Father Will MacPherson of Our Lady of Fatima parish church, Sydney River.
