The death occurred at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Saturday, April 11, 2009, of Gerwyn Jones, of Summerside, aged 95 years. Gerwyn was a veteran of the Second World War. Born in Swansea, Wales, on May 8, 1913, he was the son of the late John and Mary Hannah Jones. Gerwyn moved to Courtney, B.C., Canada for a short period at the age of 14 with his family and then moved to Toronto, ON. Loving husband to his wife of 60 years Sarah “Sadie” “Sally” (Ramsay) Jones; also survived by son Gery (Linda), Ladysmith, B.C.; daughter Susan Escoffery, Charlottetown; grandchildren James, Lindsay, Katie, Emily and Julia Escoffery; Elizabeth (Ken) Ticiniski; great-granddaughter Sophie Ticiniski, all of Ladysmith, B.C.; step-granddaughters Bea Elliott and Shannon Slater; brothers-in-law Elmer (Norma) Ramsay, Northam; John Morgan, Markham, ON; sister-in-law Priscilla Ramsay, Summerside. Predeceased by sisters Mercia Morgan, Iris Widerick, Olwen Stire; sister-in-law Harriet Sargent; and by brothers-in-law Stewart Ramsay, Dr. Leigh Ramsay and Rev. Allison Ramsay. Resting at the Moase Funeral Home, Summerside, where funeral service will be on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m in the chapel. Interment will later take place in Peoples Cemetery, Summerside. No visiting hours by personal request. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Children’s Wish Foundation would be appreciated. Members of the Summerside Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion will hold a Service of Remembrance, at the funeral home, Wednesday at 12:45 p.m.
