HAUKENESS - Kenton Lee Haukeness, (15), of Hazlet, tragically passed away March 31, 2009, at the family farm. Kenton was born December 6, 1993, the youngest of three, the baby of the family, much loved and protected by his older sister and brother. He is survived by his parents, Don and Dallas Haukeness; his brother, Kyle Haukeness; grandmothers, Norma Brown and Alice Smith; aunts and uncles, Randal (Corrine) Brown, Stephen (Mona) Brown, Laurel (Richard Bye) Trembath, Theresa Brown, Darren Brown, Marla (Rob Theise) Brown, Maynard (Connie) Haukeness, Linda (Bill) Lefever, Shirley (Dave) Friggstad and Allan (Brenda) Haukeness and Bob and Dianne Hansen; and by many cousins; great aunts and uncles and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Denise Haukeness (January 2, 2008); and his grandfathers, Reg Smith (2006) and Pat Brown (1991). The memorial service was held at 2:00 PM April 4, 2009, from The Hazlet School Gymnasium, Hazlet, SK, with Maxine Pirie and Carola Anderson officiating. The pianist was Elaine Little. His cousin, Terri Trembath, gave a tribute and Stacey Wolfe spoke on behalf of the School. Tara Dewar, Jessie Keenleyside and Lindsay Alliban created a power point presentation. Urn bearers were Colten Stock and Dakota Shaw. Ushers were Kevin Stock, Ian Sletten, Calvin Shaw and Steve Robertson. A private family interment of Kenton and Denise's ashes was held at the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery. Kenton started school when he was four so he could attend school and ride the school bus with his sister for one year at least, before she graduated. From the first day of school, he loved attending and had a passion for learning; he loved the class discussions and was quite happy when he could offer the teachers information that they might have forgotten. He had an eye for art, whether it was designing logos for clothing or taking photos, he received lots of compliments, and had even submitted some photos to a contest. He was always listening to music, he especially liked the seventies, The Beatles were a favourite of his, and a lot of his favourite songs were also his Dads. Kenton also enjoyed people of all ages, little ones would flock to him, and he had many friends of different ages. Kenton also loved to travel; he talked often of his trips to Vancouver Island, always ready to go back. This past February we enjoyed a holiday at Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. He enjoyed body surfing with his dad and brother, bartering with the locals, being at sea on a Pirate Ship with his auntie and uncle, but mostly he enjoyed relaxing with his family. Kenton wasn't big into sports but did like to curl, the past two summers he attended curling camp with his friends, he also had a bow that he liked target practice at the big round bale. He looked forward to camping; he enjoyed the time spent at Lac Pelletier, where he could hang out with his Gull Lake friends. Family gatherings were always important to him; he looked forward to spending time with his aunts, uncles and cousins. As his cousin said, he really wasn't a farm kid, he was just putting in time there before moving to the city. But while growing up on the farm he did enjoy the animals, hauling grain for his dad, brother and uncle in harvest. He didn't care for fencing, but when his sister would ask him to go with her he would go, just wanting to spend time with her. Kenton loved to cook, stir-fries were his specialty. Kenton was a reader, and he was always ready to have a discussion with you over his latest book, sometimes he would lose us in the first sentence because he was quite serious with his discussions. He enjoyed playing with his Wii and his brother's Playstations; he was always ready to play guitar hero with Kyle. Losing his sister last January was a big blow in his life, but he continued to make plans with his brother and his parents, planning vacations to places like Jamaica and Portugal, trips with his cousin to Banff to take pictures and more plans with his art. Kenton's latest pet was his 8-week-old pup, Kooper; he enjoyed many hours playing with him. His best friend was his brother Kyle, who spoiled him right from the time he was little, and when they gave Kenton the nickname Gunter, Kyle would say, "What Gunter wants, Gunter gets," and
if Kyle could he made sure it happened. Kenton will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
