HOPEWELL/TATAMAGOUCHE – Ella Christine MacDonald, 91, of Maplewood Manor, Tatamagouche, formerly of Hopewell, passed away Tuesday, April 14th, 2009, at the Manor.
Born in Tatamagouche, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Elizabeth (MacKay) Mattatall.
Ella was a long time resident of Hopewell, moving to Tatamagouche in 2004. She was a member of the United Church. Ella was a cook for most of her working life. She received her 50-year Jewel from the Silver Light Rebekah Lodge #79. She was also a member of the Ladies auxiliary of the Hopewell Royal Canadian Legion.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Hilda Douglas, Tatamagouche; grandchildren: Bruce (Melanie) Douglas, Karen (Gordon) Ross; Allan (Tanya) Douglas and David Douglas; great-grandchildren: Steven, Colin, Christina, Gary, Matthew and Hunter; brother; Don Mattatall, Pictou; sisters: Vera Reid, Sandpoint; Mary Stallard, Hamilton, ON; Ina Lacquement, Brandon, MB; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Everett Douglas; second husband, Arnold “Joe” MacDonald; son, Ralph Douglas; brothers, Angus and Kenneth; sisters: Dot, Greta and Mae.
The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from St. Columba United Church, Hopewell, with Rev. Heather Landry officiating. Cremation to follow. Burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery at a later date.
