The death of Zena Florence Rodger age 76 of Amherst occurred peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Gables Lodge Nursing Home, Amherst. Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late George and Mildred Laurette. Zena worked for N.S. Power Commission for many years, where she enjoyed meeting and socializing with numerous people. In her younger years she was very active with the guiding movement, where she was a Brown Owl leader. A great love for music, Zena sang in her late husband's band the "Key Notes Orchestra." She was a member of the Trinity St. Stephen's United Church, Amherst. Some of her many hobbies included handcrafts especially, needlework, ceramics and tole painting. She was a wonderful person and will be dearly missed by her three loving children, Sharon Hunter of Amherst, Brian A. (Iris) Rodger and Nancy L.
(Victor) Hiebert both of Charlottetown, PE; two step children, Judy Jonah and James W. (Eileen) Rodger both of Amherst; two sisters, Vivian (Peter) MacNeill of Pictou, NS and Dorothy Terry of Amherst; three brothers, Hubert, Leonard both of Amherst and Raymond (Pat) of Kitchener, ON; nine grandchildren, Doug and Chris Jonah, Jim and Greg Rodger, Corey Hunter, Mike and Matt Rodger and Krista Jestin; three great grandchildren, Malcolm, Caroline and Nicolas Jonah; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Zena was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, James Murdock (Doc); four brothers, Ralph, Robert, Bob and Hubert in infancy as well as her grandson, James Scott Rodger As per Zena's wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst.
