HANSEN - June Loretta
June 12, 1932 – April 9, 2009
June was born and raised in Shellbrook and was the youngest of three daughters. She enjoyed school and was a proud class valedictorian in 1950. June married Kenneth Hansen from Sturgeon Valley on July 10, 1952. This was the beginning of a 54 year marriage! They farmed together for the first 17 years at Sturgeon Valley. June loved the farm! Many of her fondest memories were from this time period. In 1969, they moved to Prince Albert with their children, Vaughn and Mona. June entered the business world as a property manager, which she excelled at, until she retired nearly 35 years later. In 1973, she bought and managed Fashion Flair Beauty Salon in Prince Albert. She proudly operated her own business until they expanded their entrepreneurial experience in 1975 to include managing the Lakeview Hotel in Waskesiu for a season. June joined Ken in real estate and was a Realtor in Prince Albert from 1977 until 1983. At that time, Vaughn joined Ken and June to start Hansen Real Estate, and June became the bookkeeper for the family business instead. Although working hard was second nature and she thoroughly enjoyed it, she also joined the Prince Albert Lion L’s Club and Beta Sigma Phi and played bridge so June wasn’t all work and no play! She truly valued the friendships she made through this club involvement. June and Ken led our family through a wonderful life. Their union resulted in a lifetime of treasured memories. Travelling played an important part in their lives, and they enjoyed several family holidays together. June was a fantastic cook and loved to entertain friends and family here and at the cabin at Emma Lake. Dancing, however, provided June with the greatest pleasure and joy of all! June and Ken were beautiful dancers. Our family’s fondest memory will always be the living room dance! And Mont St. Joseph’s will never be the same without her and Judy Buchanan jumping up to dance whenever music was playing! June’s family was the most important thing in the world to her. She was always there for us, and we learned so much from her. She taught us to be strong, confident, and optimistic. Her quiet, reserved manner and gracefulness disguised an inner strength that we admired, respected, and loved. She was small but mighty! Our mother, grandmother, mentor, and friend will be desperately missed. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Hansen, parents Marcel and Hazel Goudal, father-in-law James Hansen, mother-in-law Bertha Hansen, sister Dorothy Sterling, sister Ieleen Gordon, brother-in-law Harry Gordon, and brother-in-law Wilfred Farrish. She leaves to mourn her passing her son Vaughn Hansen (Debbie) of Prince Albert and their children Kristen Pawliw (Derrick) and Jenna Hansen (Dustin Law), her daughter Mona Eskes (John) of Prince Albert and her daughters Martina and Alecia Nagy; brother-in-law Gordon Sterling of Canwood; sister-in-law Mildred Farrish of Provost and brothers-in-law Herbert (Jean) of Fort Nelson, Clifford of Red Deer, and Wilfred of Kamloops; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. June was made as comfortable as possible by her family, her dearest friend Judy Buchanan, Dr. Gordon Surkan, friends, and the staff at Mont St. Joseph’s. Join us for a celebration of June’s life on Monday, April 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Grays Funeral Chapel at 575 28th Street West in Prince Albert, SK with Avonda McKay officiating. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to Mont St. Joseph’s Foundation or Charity of Donor’s Choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, Drew Gray, Funeral Director.
