Glace Bay
Catherine Patricia Foley died peacefully in the Richmond Villa Nursing Home, St. Peters, with her sister Shirley and her niece Carrie by her side. For the past four years Patricia was a loved member of the Villa Family. Her gentle holy demeanor quickly made her a favourite patient. Patricia received comfort, care, love, and respect from all the staff. Their hearts are generous and golden. Thank you.
Patricia was born in Glace Bay, a daughter of the late Alice MacIntyre and Thomas Foley. She was number seven and the fifth daughter in a family of 13.
She is survived by her sister, Shirley and various nieces and nephews in Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia, Australia, England and Norway.
She was predeceased by brothers, Dr. Bill Foley (Gert), Antigonish, Allan (Margaret), Glace Bay, John (Isabel), Glace Bay, Thomas (Dorothy), Glace Bay, Daniel, Montreal/Glace Bay, and sisters, Rita, (Sister) Mary (Gerald O’Brien), Montreal, Marcella (Frank Murphy), Sydney, Carmella (Greg Chapel), Ontario/Sydney, Eleanor (Ken Stone) Victoria.
Patricia attended St. John’s School, Glace Bay and graduated from Provincial Normal College Truro. She taught one year in Leitches Creek and 35 years in St. John’s School, New Aberdeen. She took a leave of absence and worked for a year for Trans-Canada Credit in Toronto where her instant recall, her organizational abilities and comfort with numbers earned her several promotions. But, she returned to teaching in Glace Bay. In later years her students described her as an excellent teacher, strict but always fair.
When she retired she travelled extensively in Europe, Africa, Australia, The Abacos and the Far East. When at home she generously chauffeured those in need of transportation to appointments, social events and Sunday Mass. She was a loyal gentle friend. Family members and those in need had the best confidant, problem solver and anchor to turn to.
The family will receive friends at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, Tuesday, 5:30-9 p.m. The funeral Mass will be held in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay at 10 a.m. Wednesday with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Richmond Villa Nursing Home would be appreciated.
