It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Leo Lawrence MacNamara, 83, of Reserve Mines. Leo passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Saturday, April 18, 2009, surrounded by loving family members.
Born in Reserve Mines, Leo was the son of the late Thomas and Mary (MacDonald) MacNamara.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines. Leo worked for the Devco Corp. until his retirement in 1985 after 35 years of service. He was an avid card player and a great fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Leo will be missed by family and many friends.
Leo is survived by his longtime companion and best friend, Audrey McPhee; three daughters, Brenda (Melvin) Bryden, Sandra (Arnold), Donna Currie, Reserve Mines; three sons, Tom (Nora), Calgary, Wayne (Debbie), Reserve Mines, Darrell (Laura), Grande Prairie. Also surviving are three stepdaughters, Anna (Lester), Newfoundland, Cathy, Michelle, both in Ontario; three stepsons, Leroy, John, Malcolm, all in Ontario; three sisters, Mary Martin, Ontario, Rita and Roseline, both in Glace Bay. Leo will be sadly missed by 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, very special grandson, Michael, special great-granddaughter, Brooklynn and special great-grandson, Zachery.
He was predeceased by four sisters, Carmella, Jane Buchanan, Fredia McArthur, Margaret Gardinier and three brothers, Vincent, Joseph and Francis.
In keeping with Leo’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A private family service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gerald Campbell officiating. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery.
