The Bereta family is deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of a loving father and husband on April 18, 2009.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Joseph and Stella Bereta (Trojan). He was a member of Saint Theresa’s parish, Sydney. A proud alumni graduate of St. FX with an engineering certificate Eddie went on to graduate from Nova Scotia Tech with an electrical engineering degree in 1956.
During his 35 professional years of work Eddie taught adult education in the area of electronics while he worked as a professional electrical engineer for Nova Scotia Power in an assistant zone manager role.
His retirement days were filled with cooking, gardening, spending many hours with his grandchildren and walking with his canine friends. Eddie volunteered at the pensioners club, was a past member of the board of directors Sydney Co-op, and a member of Club 55. Eddie loved to bowl, play darts, shuffle board, tarabish, and curling.
Eddie will always be remembered for his kindness, compassion and generosity towards others. Eddie always thought of others before himself. He held strong family values and always encouraged others to do their best. He was a great supporter and always willing to go the extra mile.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Yvonne (Coakley); children, Ronnie (Susan) Bereta, Diane (Glen) Joseph, Kenny (Sandra) Bereta, and Darlene (Chris) Bereta; his sister, Vickie Nichols, all of Sydney. He is also survived by grandchildren, Kristin (Drew) Currie, Sydney, Melissa (Chad) Henry, Lower Sackville, Glenda (Colin) Joseph, Fort Saskatchewan and Bethany Bereta, Sydney as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, his sisters, Helen MacArthur and Caroline Anczurouski; brothers-in-law, Gerald Nichols, Donnie MacArthur and Stan Anczurouski; along with two brothers in infancy, predeceased Edward.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday April 22, 2009 at St. Theresa’s Church, Sydney with Fr. James Oliver officiating. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Reception at the Steel Workers and Sydney Pensioner Club, Inglis Street.
