It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Marie Justine (Jolley) Lee on Monday, April 20, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family.
Marie was born Dec. 16, 1925, in Glace Bay. She was the daughter of the late John and Sarah (Mullins) Jolley.
Marie was on the nursing staff for 24 years at the Glace Bay Community Hospital in the paediatric department.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Fred; her son, Bernie (Pam), Glace Bay; her daughters, Marie (John Gillis) and Linda (Lorne Spencer), Glace Bay, Jean (Dr. Jim Doane) Great Village, N.S., and Joan, Halifax. A son Gerard died in infancy.
Marie is also survived by nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her sister, Agnes (Francis Turner), Sydney; and two brothers, Joe Jolley, Ottawa, and Charles Jolley, Glace Bay.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Helen Cox and Bridget Burke, brothers, Richard (twin brother), Edmond, John, William and Francis.
As per her wishes, there will not be a visitation. A Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Anne’s Church on Thursday, April 23, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Gerald Campbell officiating. Burial at a later date in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glace Bay, under the direction of Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay.
Donations may be made to the SPCA or charity of choice in lieu of flowers.
