Maria Genevieve Campbell died peacefully Monday, April 20, 2009, at Seaview Manor. Maria was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary (Shaw) Campbell of Victoria Street, Glace Bay.
She is survived by brothers, Howard (Helen), Richmond, B.C., and Gerald ‘Teddy’, Pennsylvania, USA; sister-in-law, Caroline Campbell, North Sydney; and many nieces and nephews across Canada and the USA.
She was predeceased by brothers, Dan and Leroy, sisters, Aileen (Bill) Petrie and Mollie (M.J.) McKinnon.
Born in Glace Bay, Maria attended St. Anne’s School and was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Hospital, where she worked for many years in the CSR department. She loved to play cards and enjoyed visiting with family in Canada and the USA.
Sincere thanks are extended to her caregivers at Seaview Manor, where she had been a resident since 2001, by her niece, Marilyn (Jim) Wilson and the rest of the family.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be held in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay, Friday at 10 a.m. with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. A reception will take place in the church foyer. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery at a later date.
