It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother Emily Jane Carter, Monday, April 20, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Fox Island, N.L., Aug. 4, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Minnie (Bunter) Coley.
Emily was a member of St. Bartholomew Church, Louisbourg.
Mom had a love of nature and the outdoors. She was dad’s helpmate in everything they did together.
She will always be remembered for the love she gave to everyone.
Emily is survived by her only son, Samuel Jr., (Barbara), Sydney, his children Sammy and Jason; her daughters, Eva Leona and her son, Reginald Stewart; Marjory, her children, Daniel, Quinn and Lori-Ann; Minnie (John George) MacKeigan, their son, Alexander; and Doris (Brian) Dean, their daughters, Charmaine, and Kimberley. She is survived by her sister, Ester Bussey; many great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by the love of her life, Samuel James Carter, who was lost at sea, Dec. 23, 1968, her brothers, George, Ivan and her granddaughter, Deborah.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., one hour prior to the memorial service at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 23 at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Louisbourg, with Rev. Fred Rhymes officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery, Louisbourg.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Breton Palliative Care or charity of choice.
