Lieu de décès : SYDNEY, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 23 avril 2009
James ‘Jim’ Harris, 69, of Sydney, N.S., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on April 23, 2009, after a brief illness.
Born in 1939, Jim was the son of Everett and Rose (Bellman) Harris of Yarmouth, NS. Jim moved with his family to Cape Breton in 1965 to manage the Metropolitan Store in Sydney. After several years in management, Jim began a long career with London Life Insurance and retired early.
Throughout his career, Jim served his clients with a high degree of professionalism and respect. His greatest joy was his wife, children and grandchildren, and after he retired, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, like the long walks he took with his wife, Elizabeth, in Petersfield.
He had a lifelong, avid interest in aviation and spent many long hours building model airplanes to the highest standards. Jim’s interest in music, especially the guitar, continues to be enjoyed by his whole family.
Jim is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Seely) of Sydney; his mother, Rose (Bellman) Harris of Yarmouth; his daughters, Kimberly Harris (Eddy Edison) of Dartmouth, Karrie (Iain) Matheson of Lower Sackville, Kathie ‘Kate’ Harris, at home and Susan (George) Anthony of Eastern Passage; his sons, Scott (Melissa Holmes) of Port Hope, Ont. and Stuart (Selena Cheater) of Faro, YT; his grandsons, John and Gregory MacInnis of Halifax, Geoffrey Matheson of Lower Sackville, Ryan and Brett Anthony of Eastern Passage, Cameron Harris of Port Hope, Ont.; his granddaughters, Lauren and Christine Harris of Port Hope, Ont.; his great-grandson, Owen Pickles of Sydney; his brothers, Ren (Sharon) Harris of Edmonton, Alta. and David (Coral) Harris of Nappan; his sisters, Suzie (Pat) Eldridge and Judy (David) Sollows of Yarmouth.
He was predeceased by his father, Everett Harris; sister, Eleanor Harris and his grandson, Stephen MacInnis.
He will be most sadly missed by his loving wife of 50 years, Elizabeth, and his family.
Following cremation, a private family memorial will be held at an undetermined date.
In honour of the nurses and doctors, who tended to him with the greatest compassion and professionalism, the family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Jim’s memory to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
A special thank-you to the nurses of the VON for their care and compassion and all the friends who assisted the family during this very difficult time.
