It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Merrill Burchell on Friday, April 24, 2009 at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Merrill was born and raised in New Waterford and was the son of the late William and Margaret (Townsend ) Burchell.
Merrill was a regular force peace time veteran and served from 1957-1961 with the navy. He loved to dance, play cards and was a member of the Scotchtown Pensioners Club.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 51 years, Barbara (Jewer). Also surviving are a daughter, Donna (Dwayne) McCaskill, British Columbia; three sons, Brian (Cindy), Ontario, Wayne (Dana) and Blair (Traci), both of British Columbia; sister, Cynthia (Frank) McNeil; brother, Cecil, along with his sisters-in-law, Allene, Rita and Ruth. Merrill also leaves to mourn his passing five loving grandchildren and one special great-grandson, the love of his life.
Besides his parents; his brothers, Russell, Calvin and Roy predeceased Merrill.
There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500. A memorial service will take place in British Columbia at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cape Breton Palliative Care Society.
