PLEWIS - Stella Eva Plewis (nee: Kenzie) passed away April 20, 2009 at the Swift Current Care Centre, Swift Current, SK. Stella was the oldest of six children and was born May 19, 1913, at Sec. 32, Twp. 18. Rge. 15 West 3rd Mer., in the Success District, SK, to Edgar and Marian Kenzie. She took her first years of school at Fairhill School north of Success. Then the family moved to the Ohioville school distict north east of Pennant, SK, where she completed her education. She helped at home until 1933 when she married Gordon Plewis, a farmer of that district. In 1936, Gordon's parents retired and Stella and Gordon settled on the Plewis family farm. This is where they raised a family of four boys and two girls. Summer holidays were looked forward to because it meant a week spent at Clearwater Lake. Sunday school and church were held in the school. She was a member of the Farm Women's Club of Pennant. The couple retired to Swift Current and enjoyed their motor home, taking trips to British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario to visit relatives they had never met before. Stella was a true homemaker: canning fruit, vegetables and meat. She enjoyed her yard and flowers. She sewed clothes for all the six children when they were young and made her own dress patterns and dresses. She spent hours looking for family histories and keeping records and obtaining as many pictures from relatives as she could. The funeral service was held Friday, April 24, 2009, at 1:00 P.M. from the Trailview Alliance Church, with Reverend Albert Penner and Pastor John Regier officiating. The pianist for the service was Nancy Peters and the soloist was Reiny Plewis. The honorary pallbearers were: "All Who Shared In Her Life." The active pallbearers were grandsons: Dale Plewis, Daniel Plewis, Darwin Plewis, Reiny Plewis, Lance Plewis and Leslie Shaw. The ushers were Harvey Horn and Ken Bell. The interment service took place at the family plot in the Pennant Cemetery, Pennant, SK. Stella is survived by a son: Keith (May) Plewis of Saskatoon, and their children: Kim (Harry) Delany, Dale (Carolyn) Plewis, Danniel (Kerri) Plewis, Deborah Plewis; a daughter: Edna (Gerald) Shaw of Swift Current, and her family: Orla (Blair) Moen, Leslie (friend Donna) Shaw, Tracey (Darcy) Wall; a daughter: Erma McRae of Watrous; daughter-in-law: Edna (friend Art) Plewis of Victoria, BC, and her children: Terry (Lil) Plewis, Lance (Linda) Plewis, Wanda Plewis and Darren (Anna) Plewis; daughter-in-law: Darlene Plewis of Swift Current, and her children: Darwin (Lorrie) Plewis, Reiny (Dona) Plewis and Deana (Andre) Blais; a sister, Vivian Ellerman of Vancouver, BC; a sister-in-law, Kay Kenzie of Swift Current; twenty eight great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
