Cecil Robert Burchell, age 74 of Thompson Street, New Waterford and formerly of Wilson Avenue, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2009 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in New Waterford on April 3,1935, he was the son of the late William and Margaret (Townsend) Burchell.
Cecil was a member of Calvin United Church, New Waterford. He worked with the Devco railroad until his retirement. He was a quiet man who loved going for his daily drives to Tim Hortons. Cecil enjoyed going to the horse races with his twin brother Roy in his younger years and also loved buying his 649 tickets.
He is survived by his sister, Cynthia (Frank) McNeil; sisters-in-law, Ruth, Rita, Allene, Barbara Burchell; special cousin, Greg Townsend; many nieces; nephews and great-nephews, Bryson and Kalem.
Cecil was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, twin brother, Roy, Russell, Calvin and Merrill.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford.
A memorial service officiated by Rev. Duncan Roach will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. in Calvin United Church followed by interment in Union Grove Cemetery. Reception to follow in the church hall.
