Leo Head, 61, of Heelan Street, New Waterford, passed away suddenly Monday, April 27, 2009.
He was born in New Waterford and raised by Ralph and Theresa (Hayward) Head.
Leo was a member of St. Agnes Church. He was well known in the community and greeted everyone with a smile. He enjoyed fishing and working on cars.
Leo is survived by his wife, Cathy (Angione) Head, New Waterford; son, Angus (Joanne) Head, New Waterford; daughter, Theresa (Michael) Hogan, New Waterford; grandsons, Marshall, Zachary, Stephen and granddaughters, Mary and Joella. He is also survived by nine brothers, Ralph (Sandra) Head, New Waterford, James (Lisa) Fortune, Glace Bay, Joseph (Greta) Fortune, New Waterford, Bernie (Ann) Fortune, Truro, Danny (Judy) Fortune, Sydney, John Head, Sydney, Joe Roach, Ontario, Elick Roach, New Waterford, Donnie Roach, New Waterford and five sisters, Ann Marie (Billy), Port Hawkesbury, Cathy Toombs, Ontario, Anita (Stephen) Singh, Jeanie Fortune and Marie (Pete) MacLean.
Leo was predeceased by his first wife, Josephine (Feit) Head, parents, Annie (Head) Fortune and Elick Roach, a brother, Bill (Cora) Head and special grandparents, Ralph and Theresa Head.
Visitation is Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral service officiated by Deacon Leo Penny is Friday at 10 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, Mt. Carmel Church followed by a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 15, New Waterford. Leo will be cremated after the service and a burial will take place at a later date in St. Agnes Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy for Leo, donations in his memory may be made to palliative care or the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Foundation.
